Your child’s grades are influenced by class work, homework, and common course assessments. We ensure that our students are prepared for nationally-normed, or standardized, tests by introducing students to the format and time constraint early in their high school experience. Common course assessments, as we call them, are ACT-style exams that students take every five weeks. All common course assessments consist of four parts: a reading passage with comprehension questions, vocabulary assessment items, course content assessment items, and a free-response, or essay prompt. Our teachers have been trained in writing ACT-style questions and prompts that assess your child’s learning.

I’d like to thank Ms. Paige Stenzel for a wonderful College Fair on October 5. Recruiters from more than 30 colleges and universities as well as representatives from the United States Armed Forces spoke to our students about opportunities for post-secondary schooling and financial aid.

On October 29, Steinmetz welcomed former graduate Antony Chungath for Principal for a Day. Antony, a graduate of the Class of 2007, is currently the student member of the Chicago City Colleges Board of Trustees. He is studying finance and is interested in politics as well. It was a pleasure to welcome him to Steinmetz, and our students enjoyed learning about a young person who is making a positive and lasting contribution to our city.
